The third track from the 2001 TimeMaker Release titled "Counter-Clockwise," Mark wrote Beautiful Girl (It's Over Now) in his 26th & U St. apartment in midtown Sacramento on his turquoise-burst Ibanez acoustic guitar, which is also featured in the Flip Side video as an homage to the guitar used to write many of this era's songs. Beautiful Girl mixes the soft acoustic mellow verses and the hard-rocking choruses and bridge, blending the two styles effortlessly and ending with the soft realization that it is, indeed, "over now."
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Beautiful girl in a tangled world
She hates the way I have to say
It's over now, it's over now
The sun beats down on her as she frowns
While I think of a way that I can say
It's over now, it's over now
[Chorus]
And I feel the way that you do
But I can't remain
With a hole in my heart
Because it left a stain
And I fear that I'll raise Cain
[Verse 2]
Amazing skin and a melting grin
Still I have to say that I'm going away
'Cos it's over now, it's over now
The greenest eyes and behind them lies
A girl who knows that I must go
It's over now, it's over now
[Chorus]
And I feel the way that you do
But I can't remain
With a hole in my heart
Because it left a stain
And I fear that I'll raise Cain
[Bridge]
I want to feel beautiful tonight
Capture her grace with my sights
I want to touch every inch of her
And hold her 'til the morning light
[Chorus]
And I feel the way that you do
But I can't remain
With a hole in my heart
Because it left a stain
And I fear that I'll raise Cain
It's over now, it's over now
It's over now, it's over now
It's over now
